umm it took about a day or 2 to simulate the fire
and the render actually wasnt too bad, it was maybe 6 hours all up :)

holy that is LONG! which must make you wonder how or what they use use to render the full blown CG movies.... like avatar :D

nah thats not very long
especially compared to movies like you said, they have render times of a few days to a few weeks PER FRAME
and that is on a render farm of a few thousand CPUs (4000 or so for industrial light and magic!)
its crazy what those guys do!

how did you get your avatar?
well if i end up with something that takes ages, i leave it on overnight
and switch it to low priority in task manager so i can still work on other projects :)

And that would probably be wise. in maya, you can choose how many cores you use to render. so if you have a quad core computer, you can use 3 cores to render and 1 core for normal stuff :)

yeah you can do that with task manager in processes, but if your not fully using that core i feel its going to waste :(
so if the render is low priority, it will get whatever your not using :)
i used to disable core use, but i would always forget to put it back. annoyting when you take a look in the morning and its not done when it should be :(

actually i meant how did you use your avatar in a message? what do you type? just wondering

OH, is that all. yeah they're no problem. they looks good. you want them. just not tonnes on it. imagine it being a water pistol. droplets of water will come bounce back at you. so think of napalm and flamthrowers as water pistols/bombs where the liquid is on fire. which 'hey, that's what they actually are!' lol

Oh, well. if it's realyl really bad, tinker with some viscosity settings. set it more dense. like oil. since flame thrower fuel is a mix of oil and accelerant.

bad idea
i actually clipped the end because theres all these little burning drops of oil that bounce off the wall, but it looks more like flaming peanuts to me

and suprisingly, i didnt need to swith to 64 bit to do this, i thought this would be extremely ram intensive, but it wasnt (ran out of space on my comp though, the simulation clocked up 20 gigs!!)

the full version is olny like a second longer, you can still see a few of the 'flaming peanuts' bouncing in this version lol

dont worry expect more of this stuff BUT BETTERER!
next will be a remake of the good old dungeons and dragons spell: BURNING HANDS
